Introducing For Your Information
Dear Reader,
My name is Julia Hayes and I am the current Editor-in-Chief of The iJournal, the open-access academic journal run by graduate students at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information. To further expand The iJournal’s reach and continue to highlight the incredible contributions of the next generation of information and museum professionals and researchers, I am excited to announce the launch of our substack For Your Information!
About The iJournal
The iJournal is made possible by the dedication of graduate students from the University of Toronto's iSchool who devote their valuable time to ensuring the journal's success each year. Since its debut in 2016, The iJournal has released two issues annually during the fall and winter semesters, with the occasional summer issue and conference proceedings, highlighting the exemplary work of information and museum studies students. Central to The iJournal’s focus is interdisciplinarity—in other words, recognizing the multitude of connections between various branches of information and museum studies and other academic fields. The journal has also evolved quite a bit over the past eight years. Most recently, in January 2023, The iJournal began accepting submissions from students in information and museum studies programs from all across Canada, deepening our ability to showcase the diversity of work being done by students in Canada. As an open-access journal, we promote free and immediate access to research and literature.
What to Expect From For Your Information
For Your Information will offer a more casual way to interact with the journal, allowing you to keep up to date with opportunities to get involved and stay connected with our team throughout the year while The iJournal's editorial team is hard at work reviewing and editing the manuscripts that will become our next issue. You can expect a newsletter approximately once a month, each of which may include the following:
1. Article Spotlights: Discover some of the great articles from our past issues.
2. Announcements: Be first to know when our calls for submissions open, when issues launch, and when we hold events.
3. Behind the Scenes: Hear from our team members about their experiences working as part of our editorial and communications teams, see pictures from our events, and get insight into how The iJournal operates.
4. Author Insights: Hear from our published authors about their research, what they are studying, and their future aspirations.
This is just the beginning and we are excited by the new opportunities For Your Information will provide in helping to further build connections in information and museum studies across Canada!
